Publishing APIs
Plans and pricing
Tiers, quotas, rate limits, overage, free trials and private plans.
Plans decide what consumers pay and what they get. Create them in Monetize. Consumers can't subscribe until your API has at least one plan.
A good starting structure
| Plan | Price | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | ₹0 | Let developers try the API. A small quota and a low rate limit. |
| Pro | Your main price | Where most customers land. Mark it Most Popular. |
| Ultra / Mega | Higher tiers | More volume and a higher rate limit for bigger customers. |
A free plan dramatically increases how many developers try your API, and puts your API in the Free APIs collection.
Plan settings
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| Name | Shown on the pricing page, for example "Pro". |
| Tier | The plan's level (Free, Basic, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Custom). Used to order and label plans. |
| Currency and Monthly price | What the consumer pays per month. ₹0 makes it a free plan. |
| Quota | How many requests the consumer can make per billing month. It resets each month on their subscription date. |
| Rate limit (optional) | Maximum requests per second (or per minute or hour). Leave empty for no limit. |
| Concurrent requests (optional) | Maximum requests in flight at once. |
| Hard limit once quota's used | On: calls stop at the quota (429 QUOTA_EXCEEDED). Off: set a price per extra request; calls keep working and the overage is billed on the consumer's next invoice. |
| Free trial and trial length | Consumers get the plan free for that many days before the first charge. |
| Features | The bullet list on your pricing page. Mark each feature as included or not, to show what upgrading unlocks. |
| Mark as "Most Popular" | Highlights the plan you recommend. |
| Visible on pricing page | Turn off to make a private plan, offered only by invitation (see below). |
Private plans and invitations
For a special deal with one customer, create a plan and turn off Visible on pricing page. Then open Community, click Invite To Private Plan, choose the plan and enter the customer's email. They receive a link that lets them subscribe to it.
Changing plans later
You can edit or add plans at any time. Consumers can switch between your plans themselves; a switch takes effect immediately and starts a new billing month (see Managing subscriptions).
How pricing works for consumers
- All plans are billed monthly, in advance.
- Consumers pay through APIHiver's checkout. You never handle card or UPI details.
- Unpaid renewals pause access automatically until paid. See Billing and payments.
